We are not currently accepting students to this program.

Our master of education program at Salem College is ideally suited for licensed teachers seeking to enhance their professional practice. Salem’s M.Ed. programs have been designed to complement an in-service teacher’s schedule. Evening class meeting times, customized courses of study, flexible and convenient semester schedules (including two summer terms), and intimate rapport with colleagues and professors make our M.Ed. programs a terrific choice for educators seeking an advanced degree.

Student Experience

Students in the Master of Education (MEd) program engage in action research projects in their classrooms. These experienced educators look at the information they collect about their students and learn ways to analyze and use data to improve student outcomes.  The result for them is an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the assessment data they collect as they engage in the instructional process, and use that knowledge to continually plan lessons that target student needs.

Health Leadership Highlights

  • Students in the MEd program can specialize in Elementary Education, Language and Literacy, or Special Education. With a focus on developing school leaders from a student-centered, constructivist lens, teachers learn the effects of physical and social-emotional health on the development of healthy communities.
  • Students in the MEd program in Special Education learn to recognize, evaluate, and address specific physical, social-emotional, and learning needs of individual students. They become health leaders in their schools by addressing the needs of all students to support their health, well-being, and school success.

Jobs and Outcomes

For practicing teachers who already have an initial teaching license, Salem offers traditional graduate degree programs, designed to enhance master teachers’ professional practice and to foster their development as school leaders. Salem’s MEd programs seek to be responsive to the needs of inservice teachers by offering evening classes and summer course opportunities.
